We are Megan & Bill, co-founders of Crescent Simples! We met while we were both bartending in New Orleans. Megan worked on the Mardi Gras parade route and Bill worked in the French Quarter. We have always loved entertaining, cooking and making cocktails together. Making fruit infused simple syrups to complement our home bar has been a hobby of ours for a long time. We wanted our drinks to taste like fresh, just picked fruit and herbs, and there was nothing like that on the market. It was common for friends to walk by our house on their way home from work and stop in for a delicious cocktail made with one of our syrups. To this day, you are still guaranteed to find at least five mason jars of fun new flavors in our refrigerator at any given time!
In early 2019 Megan suffered a life-changing back injury. It quickly became apparent that she would not be able to go back to work in the restaurant industry. We wanted to be close to family and to get her the best treatment possible, so we packed up our house and moved to Charlottesville, Virginia. Unable to walk or stand for much more than 30 minutes at a time, Megan was going stir crazy on the couch and spent her time reading books about cocktails and dreaming of new simple syrup flavors. At the same time, we went from going out to eat and drink frequently to being confined to entertaining at home, and we really started to notice the lack of affordable, quality drink mixes available. Since we had been making our own simple syrups at home, we realized we had a real business possibility on our hands. We decided on our core flavors and agreed on our company mission: to elevate the experience of the home bartender by creating accessible, high quality cocktail products using only fresh ingredients.
Our core values as a company are to keep things fresh, as local as possible, and made from ingredients we are proud of. As much as we can, we use local, Virginia fruit and herbs. We got our start selling at a farmer's market, and when you take a bottle of our syrup home, we want it to taste like you just made a drink with fresh farmer's market produce in it!
Our company was born out of a very difficult time in our lives, and therefore we believe deeply in the importance of helping others through similar hardships. We donate 5% of our profits to non-profit organizations. We especially like to support causes that help veterans (Bill is a veteran), people struggling with physical or mental handicaps, and people who struggle with alcohol and drug addiction.
